WE are looking for a person to provide 9 hours a week respite personal care for me, to allow my husband some much needed free time from being responsible for my care in the afternoons,ideally from 2-5pm, 3 days a week.I have Parkinsons disease with an on/off pattern of symptoms restricting mobility and speech especially in the afternoon from about 2.30 til 5pm. Rest and relaxation is very helpful in this period but not always easy to acheive. As  my PCA, your role is to assist me where needed with clothing adjustments/temperature control/getting to the toilet and adjusting clothing appropriately/ make hot/cold drinks and snacks etc when requested, and to assist with operating TV and Hifi. Some assistance with light household work and food preparation may be needed, but the most important task is to enable rest and relaxation for part of the period.

Previous experience of Parkinsons Disease is useful but not essential. Previous experience of any situation requiring personal care very useful and an enquiring open mind ready to learn new things is essential as is a sense of humour.

There maybe more hours available in the early weeks on an irregular basis. This may be useful to you or may lead to a jobshare arangement. A formal increase to 12 hours per week funded by East Ayshire Social Services throught the SDS scheme may follow. Extra hours may be requested by us for other times of day and other days of the week. The core 9 afternoon hours will be as regular as possibe but some weekdays may be swopped as needed and agreed.The core hours needing cover will be 2pm -5pm. 3pm -6pm is possible but not encouraged.Payment is 4 weekly and the current hourly rate is £10.90.
