Description of the supported person:

We are looking for a caring and understanding personal assistant to provide support for a wonderful woman living with Alzheimer’s. She has lost some independence but deeply values her sense of dignity and enjoys being outdoors. This role is ideal for someone who can provide consistent, compassionate care while respecting her need for companionship and independence.

Social duties:

  • Provide companionship and empathy, offering gentle support that helps her feel connected and understood, even when words are hard to find.
  • Assist with outings, including walks and shopping trips, while being mindful of her hip issue (currently managed with cortisone shots)

Personal care:

  • Provide reminders and monitoring for medication to ensure she remains on schedule.
  • Offer support with bathroom visits: help her feel safe by ensuring the room is well-lit and assist with getting in and out of the bathroom entrance, as she may feel scared in dark spaces. However, she does not require assistance inside the cubicle.
  • Ensure she feels safe and comfortable during all aspects of her care, with attention to her need for both independence and security.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate is a compassionate and reliable carer with experience in Dementia or Alzheimer’s care. They should have a deep understanding of how to provide support that maintains dignity and encourages independence, helping her stay engaged and comfortable. Patience, empathy, and an attentive approach to communication are essential, as she may sometimes struggle with words. The candidate should also be capable of monitoring and reminding her about her medication, ensuring she remains on schedule. Additionally, they should be physically able to assist her with walking, mobility, and accompanying her on walks, coffee stops and shopping trips with sensitivity to her hip issues.
